Our tree tomato Jam delights with bright, tart flavors that open up into deeper, cherry-like notes with a subtle savory finish. Spread it on warm sourdough or fresh croissants for breakfast, pair it with aged cheeses on a cheese board, or use it as a glaze for roasted meats.

It also adds an intriguing depth to desserts, particularly when swirled through cheesecake or used as a filling in pastries. Each jar is made from organic tree tomatoes grown on our Mendocino hillside farm.

Tamarillo jam made in small batches at Hutcheson’s Fruit Farm, Mendocino County.

What’s a tamarillo? Also known as a tree tomato, think of it as nature’s sweet and tangy treat – a unique fruit that looks like a plum-sized tomato but tastes like nothing else you’ve tried before. We grow these special fruits on our organic farm up in the hills of Mendocino County, where the cool coastal air and warm to hot afternoons help them develop their amazing flavor.

The jam we make from these fruits is a beautiful deep red color and tastes both sweet and slightly tart, with interesting flavors that might remind you of cherries and plums. It’s great on your morning toast or English muffin, but don’t stop there – it’s also wonderful with cheese, and some of our customers even use it to glaze their roast meats or add flavor to desserts.

Because we’re a small organic farm, we only make a limited number of jars each fall when the fruits are perfectly ripe. Each jar contains just three simple ingredients: our organic tamarillos, organic sugar, and fruit pectin to help it set properly.
